LAHORE: Pakistan delivered an outstanding performance, comfortably defeating South Africa by 9 wickets in the second T20 International. The three-match series is now tied at 1-1.
The match, held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday, saw South Africa being bowled out for 110 runs in just 19.2 overs. Pakistan successfully chased down the target of 111 runs, finishing at 111 for 1 in only 13.1 overs.
Opener Saim Ayub played a pivotal role in the victory, scoring an unbeaten 71 runs off 38 balls. Sahibzada Farhan contributed with 28 runs, while captain Babar Azam remained not out at 11 runs. During the match, Babar Azam also reached a significant milestone, becoming the highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals, surpassing Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
South Africa’s lone wicket came from Corbin Bosh.
Earlier in the match, Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agh, won the toss and elected to field first, inviting the South African team to bat. The South African batsmen struggled against the Pakistani bowlers. David Brewers was the standout performer for South Africa, scoring 25 runs, while captain Donovan Ferreira added 15 runs. The rest of the team could not make a substantial impact.
For Pakistan, Faheem Ashraf excelled with the ball, taking four wickets for 23 runs. Salman Mirza also impressed, claiming three wickets for 14 runs. Naseem Shah contributed with two wickets, and Abrar Ahmed took one wicket.
The third and deciding match of the series will take place in Lahore, where a tough competition is expected as both teams vie for the series win.
