A temporary ceasefire has been established between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban for 48 hours. According to the Foreign Ministry, this ceasefire, which takes effect at 6 PM today, has been agreed upon at the request of the Taliban and by mutual consent.
The Foreign Ministry’s statement emphasised that during this ceasefire, both parties will make sincere efforts to reach a positive resolution to this complex but solvable issue through constructive dialogue. This decision aims to reduce recent border tensions and promote peace and stability, paving the way for a lasting solution through discussion.
Previously, the Pakistan Army responded effectively to recent border aggression by the Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Kharij by targeting significant military installations in Kandahar, Kurram, Spin Boldak, and Chaman. Security sources reported that several hideouts, including Taliban Battalion Headquarters No. 4, 8 Battalion, and Border Brigade No. 5, were destroyed in Kandahar, resulting in the deaths of dozens of Afghan and foreign militants.
In addition, eight posts and six tanks were destroyed in the Kurram sector, and approximately 15 to 20 terrorists were killed in the Chaman and Spin Boldak areas. According to sources, the Afghan Taliban utilised villages and innocent civilians as human shields during the operation and caused damage to the Pak-Afghan Friendship Gate. However, the timely and effective response from the Pakistan Army forced the enemy to retreat.
