Qatar’s Foreign Ministry heralded the truce as the opening of “a robust groundwork for enduring peace in the region.” In addition, both factions have agreed to hold follow-up discussions in a week or so, whereby they will be able to establish an enduring mechanism for peace and stability.
Negotiations, which were initially conducted by the Qatari intelligence head Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, took almost thirteen hours. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif was assisted by the top security department’s officials in leading the Pakistani side, while the Afghan contingent was directed by Defence Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob who was also attended by the intelligence chief Abdul Haq Wasiq.

Khawaja Asif announced that the next round of talks would take place in Istanbul on October 25, where both parties would discuss measures to maintain and promote peaceful coexistence. He also appreciated the very important part Qatar and Türkiye played in this process, calling them “brotherly nations committed to regional peace”.
The ceasefire is taking place during the past few weeks of escalating tensions at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border where both nations have blamed each other for the presence of militants, organizing crossborder attacks and so on. The new agreement is seen as a hopeful step toward restoring trust and promoting stability in the region.
