ISLAMABAD: Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, stated that the Pakistan Navy was ready to target an Indian aircraft carrier during Marka-e-Haq, a stance that forced the Indian Navy to remain confined to its perceived safe havens.

He made these remarks while addressing the induction ceremony of the second PN Milgem Class Corvette, PNS Khaibar, into the Pakistan Navy fleet, where he emphasised the importance of a strong, balanced, and technologically advanced naval force.

Speaking at the ceremony, Admiral Ashraf stressed that the Pakistan Navy has the full capability to target critical enemy installations and naval assets using the latest platforms and specialized technologies. He emphasized that Pakistan’s strategic location, situated along crucial global maritime energy routes, makes robust maritime security a national priority.

A powerful navy is essential to protect our national interests and secure our maritime trade routes, Admiral Ashraf stated, reiterating that Pakistan’s naval strength is vital for regional stability. The Navy’s state-of-the-art platforms, including PNS Khyber and the upcoming Hangor-class submarines, will play a key role in enhancing the nation’s defense capabilities.

Admiral Ashraf also recalled the Pakistan Navy’s readiness during the Battle of Haq (Kargil conflict), noting that the Navy was fully prepared to sink the Indian aircraft carrier Vikrant, which would have restricted the Indian Navy to its safe harbors. This statement underscores the Navy’s operational expertise and its readiness to respond decisively to any challenges to Pakistan’s maritime interests.

Any aggression challenging Pakistan’s maritime interests will be met with a strong and unwavering response, Admiral Ashraf affirmed, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and maritime borders.

The Navy Chief further pointed out that PNS Khyber and the upcoming Hangor-class submarines represent a milestone in the Pakistan Navy’s modernization efforts. These advanced platforms, combined with Pakistan’s naval expertise, will significantly enhance operational readiness, combat strength, and strategic reach.

Concluding his remarks, Admiral Ashraf expressed his best wishes to the crew of PNS Khyber and reaffirmed the Navy’s determination to protect Pakistan’s territorial waters and defend its sovereignty in the maritime domain.
