ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has successfully commenced oil production from the Pasakhi-13 development well, marking Pakistan’s first successful horizontal oil well in a clastic reservoir. Located in the Hyderabad district of Sindh, the well is currently producing 460 barrels per day (BPD).
According to a statement issued by the OGDCL on Tuesday, the well was drilled to a total measured depth of 2,966 meters, featuring a 546-meter horizontal section within the Lower Goru-A sand formation. To navigate the reservoir’s narrow three-meter “sweet spot,” OGDCL utilised advanced geo-steering technology.
The completion and testing were carried out using a short-string Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) specifically optimised for horizontal configurations.
According to OGDCL, the horizontal drilling technique provided significantly greater reservoir exposure, resulting in production levels nearly three times higher than offset vertical wells in the same area.
This milestone, part of the Pasakhi and Pasakhi North Development & Production Lease, where OGDCL holds a 100% working interest, is expected to bolster indigenous hydrocarbon production and enhance the country’s energy security.
