ISLAMABAD: Pakistani authorities shut down an Afghan propaganda account that operated through the social media platform X under the name of “Ahsan Agha” because of its controversial content.
According to officials, the account was closed after X management received multiple reports of its propaganda activities and the distribution of misinformation. The account had gained attention for posting content considered hostile and misleading, particularly targeting Pakistan.
Authorities stated that the action needed to be taken because it served two purposes: stopping false narratives from spreading and protecting the online information space. The officials stated that Pakistan will continue its efforts to combat digital propaganda while fighting against harmful content through both legal and diplomatic methods.
Users who sought action against accounts spreading disinformation and creating online tensions showed positive reactions to the social media shutdown, which they had requested.
Assessments show BLA attacks designed for online propaganda, Talat Hussain
Meanwhile, renowned journalist Syed Talat Hussain on his social media platform X said that assessments show Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) attacks were designed for online propaganda.
Talat Hussain has quoted security sources as saying that the recent attacks by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) in Balochistan appeared to be armed operations, but in reality they were “content-producing operations.”
In a statement released on X, Talat Hussain said that the aim of these attacks was not to achieve any military victory but to create propaganda videos and convey a specific narrative to the public through social media.
He said that according to security sources, the patterns of such attacks are being analyzed to accurately assess potential threats and strategies in the future.
Talat Hussain said that assessments shared with media persons show that despite mobile data being shut down in many areas, the BLA managed to upload videos of their attacks using satellite uplinks specifically portable broadband terminals capable of 1 Mbps uplink speed and 38 hours of standby time.
