PESHAWAR: Despite the government’s claims of improving education facilities, students at Government Primary School Mateen Kor in Mohmand district are facing harsh realities, with no desks or chairs to sit on and freezing classrooms.
Students at a government primary school in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mohmand district are forced to sit on the cold ground due to lack of the most basic furniture, thus highlighting the very serious gaps in educational facilities in the area.
The problem has come to light at Government Primary School Mateen Kor, in Yakka Ghund Tehsil, which has more than 120 students on roll. Despite the large number of students, the school is said to be completely devoid of desks and chairs in addition to lacking all kinds of furniture not only for the students but also for the teachers, including the head teacher.
It is quite common that the children are given lessons outdoors under the open sky because of the cold flooring in the classrooms. The local sources further say that the school’s boundary wall was damaged some years back and has not been repaired yet.
Parents and locals are very much concerned about the situation and they tell that the absence of the basic facilities is affecting the health and learning environment of the students. They have also called upon the authorities concerned to quickly provide the furniture and to improve the school infrastructure for a safe and suitable educational atmosphere for the children.
The situation has once again highlighted the problems in the government schools of remote districts, particularly during the harsh winter.
