Mount Maunganui: New​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Zealand openers made history in the World Test Championship with their record-breaking opening partnership against the West Indies.

Openers Devon Conway and Tom Latham inched their first-wicket partnership to a staggering 323-run stand thereby setting a new record for the highest opening partnership in the World Test Championship.

Devon Conway was terrific with the bat when he scored 178 runs without getting out, meanwhile, New Zealand captain Tom Latham made a great contribution of 137 runs to give his team a solid start.

The New Zealand pair have bettered the World Test Championship record of 317 runs for the first wicket, which was held by Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal. In addition, Conway and Latham have set a new record opening partnership for New Zealand at home thereby breaking the old record of 276 runs.

The prior record of 276 runs was shared between Stewie Dempster and Jackie Mills (New Zealand vs England, Wellington, 1930) and Sherwin Campbell and Adrian Griffith (West Indies vs New Zealand).

The landmark stand emphasized the top-order strength of New Zealand and thus it will be remembered as one of the great moments of Test cricket ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌history.

South Africa’s Bavuma writes new chapter in Test cricket

Temba Bavuma, the captain of South Africa has set a benchmark, in Test cricket. South Africa beat India by 408 runs, in the Guwahati Test securing a 2–0 series whitewash, on Wednesday.

In the innings India was set a target of 549 runs yet the whole Indian lineup was dismissed for only 140 runs.

By securing this victory, South Africa claimed a Test series triumph in India for the time, in Test.

This triumph also established Temba Bavuma as the captain with the number of Test victories, without a single defeat.

Serving as captain Bavuma has guided South Africa through 12 Test matches securing victory in 11 and drawing one. Under his leadership no team has managed to beat South Africa in a Test match.

Before Bavuma, this record was held by former England captain Mike Brearley, who had 10 wins in 15 Tests without any defeat.
