ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s major energy company, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), has announced the discovery of new oil and gas reserves in the Baragzai X-01 (Salient) exploration well, located in the Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The company states that this discovery will contribute to increasing the country’s energy production.
OGDCL informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) that the discovery was made under the “Nishpa Exploration License.” In this venture, OGDCL holds a 65% stake, while Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) owns 30%, and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds the remaining 5%.
According to the company, the well produces 3,100 barrels of oil per day and 8.15 million standard cubic feet of gas, as determined during the ‘cased hole drill steam test.’ Drilling for the well began on December 30, 2024, and it reached a depth of 5,170 meters. OGDCL also noted that oil and gas have been discovered in the Kingriali and Datta formations during previous tests.
The company indicates that this discovery will enhance its hydrocarbon reserves, as well as the overall energy reserves of the country.
It is also noteworthy that, on the same day, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) announced a separate gas discovery from the Bilitang-1 exploration well, also located in Kohat.
