ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday issued an alert warning of a possible severe cold wave affecting the northern regions of the country and northern Balochistan.

According to the alert, extremely cold conditions are likely to persist in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region (Islamabad-Rawalpindi) and northern Balochistan. The intensity of the cold is likely to increase significantly in parts of northern Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat and Kalat.

The NDMA has cautioned that severe cold may lead to an increased risk of respiratory diseases and advised citizens to take necessary precautionary measures. Farmers have also been warned of possible crop damage due to extreme temperatures and urged to adopt protective measures.

Additionally, commuters have been advised to exercise caution while travelling during morning hours in the plains due to expected weather conditions and the possibility of dense fog.

The NDMA said it is ensuring advanced awareness among relevant institutions and the public to minimise potential risks associated with the cold wave.
