KARAK (Qaisar Bukhari): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has officially taken notice of massive alleged irregularities in the awarding of development tenders by the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) Karak, which have reportedly resulted in a loss of tens of millions of rupees to the national exchequer.
Last month, TMA Karak issued development tenders worth a total of Rs. 830 million; however, the process has come under intense scrutiny following accusations of favouritism and the intentional rejection of competitive bids.
Sources reveal that the lowest bids, some as low as 20, 23, and 26 per cent below the scheduled rates, were sidelined in favour of preferred contractors, a move that has caused significant financial damage to public funds.
The investigation was mobilised following a formal request from an aggrieved contractor, prompting NAB to summon all relevant records for a thorough forensic audit.
The initiation of the probe has reportedly sent shockwaves through the TMA Karak offices, with officials currently in a state of panic as the bureau examines the selection criteria used to bypass lower bidders.
NAB sources have indicated that the investigation is being treated with high priority, warning that if the allegations of kickbacks and procedural violations are proven, those responsible will face immediate arrest and legal consequences.
