ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly is likely to approve the 27th Constitutional Amendment with the support of 237 members, more than the required number of 224.
Earlier, the bill was approved by the Senate on Monday, after which the constitutional amendment was also presented in the National Assembly on Tuesday, but the process of approval is still pending.
Since the government has the support of 237 members, more than the required 224 members for the constitutional amendment, it is likely that the constitutional amendment will be approved easily. On Tuesday, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar presented the constitutional amendment, after which the heads of parliamentary parties, ministers, and other members expressed their views on the constitutional amendment.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto did not express their views on the occasion, and it is likely that Bilawal Bhutto and other important leaders will address the meeting today, after which the process of approving the constitutional amendment will begin.
The process of approving the constitutional amendment will first be done clause-wise, 59 clauses will be approved clause-wise, after which the Speaker of the National Assembly will direct the members supporting the constitutional amendment to go to the government lobby and the members opposing it to go to the opposition lobby for the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment by the House, after which the doors of the National Assembly hall will be closed by ringing the bells.
After this, the members will sign in their respective lobbies, after which the Speaker of the National Assembly will announce the approval of the amendment and tell how many members have supported the constitutional amendment and how many votes were cast in opposition.
The 27th Constitutional Amendment will likely be passed with the support of 235 members, while 9 votes will be cast in opposition. The united opposition has opposed the constitutional amendment, and it is being shown that it is likely that they will not vote against the constitutional amendment; however, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has issued instructions to his members to vote against the constitutional amendment.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman himself is abroad, but his members of the National Assembly will vote against the constitutional amendment. There is also a possibility of heavy sloganeering and protests during the presentation of the constitutional amendment by the opposition. Like the Senate, PTI members in the National Assembly are also likely to tear copies of the draft and protest in the House, and then protest outside the House.
The agenda of the National Assembly session has also been released, according to which the session will be held at 11 am today at Parliament House, Islamabad, in which Members of the Assembly, Dr. Sharmila Farooqui, Ramesh Lal, and Khursheed Ahmed Junejo, will present notices calling attention to the increasing incidents of cybercrimes and the issue of cybersecurity.
According to the agenda, during the session, Federal Minister for Education and Training Khalid Mahmood Siddiqui will present a bill for the establishment of Danish School and King Hamad University. Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry will present a motion of thanks, which will be presented as an expression of gratitude for the President’s recent address to the Parliament.
