PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, during a recent meeting, outlined the key challenges currently confronting the province.
In a meeting with senior journalists and anchorpersons, Sohail Afridi emphasized that he firmly believes in democratic principles and does not wish to pursue confrontational or protest-driven politics.
Afridi said that he had utilized all constitutional avenues available to him, including writing a formal letter to Maryam Nawaz, to secure a meeting with my party founder Imran Khan.
CM KP said that, I wrote to Maryam Nawaz so that everything remains on record. It is her responsibility to respond, as this is the political tradition. I am still waiting for her reply.
He further clarified that he currently has no contact with the party founder Imran Khan.
Discussing the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Afridi said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing serious challenges, and rejected allegations that his party had settled militants in the region. There is no soft corner in our hearts for terrorists. These accusations are false.
Afridi urged anyone aware of corruption inform him, saying that the National Accountability Bureau should take strict action. I cannot even build a seven-Marla house. The day I build one, I should be arrested, he remarked.
Sohail Afridi further said that, if any political elements are involved in narcotics in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, they should be exposed so action can be taken.
Afridi noted that people from Punjab had contacted him expressing their willingness to join protests, and said he feels the loss of every martyr in the province deeply. I support dialogue, but there is no benefit in talking to the current government.
He confirmed that he had a detailed conversation with the Peshawar Corps Commander and would attend the upcoming NFC Award meeting.
Afridi urged the federal government to release funds for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reiterating that his people have sacrificed in the fight against terrorism before and are prepared to do so again provided they are taken into confidence.
