The consultant for the Murree Glass Train Project has requested that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) extend the proposed route to Islamabad International Airport via Faizabad.
This proposal was discussed in recent meetings involving the Punjab government, NESPAK, and the CDA, where it was agreed to expedite the next phase of the project.
The Punjab government is preparing to launch the glass train service, which will operate from Rawal Lake Park and the Bhara Kahu Bypass to Murree. The feasibility study for the project has already been completed.
According to the current plan, the train will cover a 40-kilometer route from the Bhara Kahu Bypass to Pindi Point in Murree.
Last month, a delegation from the Punjab government, led by Advisor to the Chief Minister Shahid Ashraf Tarar, met with CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa and board members. During this meeting, the Punjab authorities proposed linking the Murree glass train to Islamabad Airport.
Both organizations agreed that NESPAK would assist in completing the CDA’s pre-feasibility study. Sources indicate that NESPAK has submitted its pre-feasibility report to the CDA. The project consultant has recommended utilizing the existing metro track from the airport to Faizabad for the monorail.
Additionally, a proposal has been made to construct a new 13-kilometer track from Faizabad to the Bhara Kahu Bypass, which will connect to the main station at Lake View Park and the Bypass. In the next phase, there is also a proposal to extend the route from Rawal Lake to Faizabad along the expressway to facilitate a link to the monorail from that point.
