PESHAWAR: Federal Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa head Amir Muqam has condemned KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi for his remarks in Kohat describing chants such as “freedom or death”, as unconstitutional and impermissible.

Addressing the press, Muqam remarked that Afridi’s comments were disconnected from reality, further stating that PTI’s political tactics focus on coercing the state to benefit the people.

“Today Kohat has dismissed PTI. The people understand that their pledges are hollow and their deeds fruitless. The address was a bid to conceal shortcomings” Muqam stated.

He criticized efforts to drive people toward violence and turmoil, pointing to PTI’s street politics in 2014, 2018 and 2022 which he claimed damaged the nation. He further pointed out PTI’s supposed handling of national initiatives and economic strategies encompassing IMF agreements and significant scandals, like BRT, health cards, Billion Tree and issues related to wheat.

Muqam compared PTI’s performance to PML-N’s administration highlighting improvements in Punjab’s police and health departments led by Mariam Nawaz, whom he described as an elected official. He reproached Afridi for steering the addressing of healthcare and development issues in KP.

“Politics needs to function inside the constitution and parliament, not by means of slogans or assaults on institutions. The media should not be coerced and freedom of the press is the cornerstone of democracy” Muqam stated.

He concluded by emphasizing that the public has moved beyond threats and slogans, seeking stability, employment, and rule of law, which he said only PML-N can deliver.
