Rain with strong winds and thundershowers is likely in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from tonight to the morning of March 16 and in view of this forecast, the Provincial Emergency Operation Center of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert to all district administrations.
According to the weather warning issued by the PDMA, rain is expected in the upper districts of the province such as Chitral Upper, Chitral Lower, Dir Upper, Dir Lower, Swat, Buner and Malakand, while snowfall is also possible in the mountains.
Furthermore, there is a risk of landslides with heavy rain in Kohistan Upper, Kohistan Lower, Kolaipalas, Shangla, Battagram and Torghar. Citizens in Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur have been instructed to take precautionary measures during rain with strong winds and thunderstorms.
There are chances of rain and storms in Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram and Karak, hence the district administration has been instructed to make emergency preparations. Urban flooding is expected in Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera and Peshawar due to rain and strong winds. A drop in temperature and thunderstorms are expected in Kohat, Hangu, Bannu and Lakki Marwat. There is also a risk of flooding in rivers and canals due to rain and strong winds in DI Khan, North and South Waziristan.
The PDMA has said that a drop in temperature of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius is expected due to rains and rescue teams, machinery and emergency services will be on alert in all districts.
The public has been advised to stay away from mountainous areas, landslide-prone areas, open areas, weak buildings, electricity poles and signboards. Tourists and commuters should avoid unnecessary travel.
A PDMA spokesperson said that the Emergency Operations Center is fully functional and the public can report any untoward incident on helpline 1700.
