ISLAMABAD: Several countries are expected to celebrate Eid ul-Fitr on Friday, March 20, as the moon was not sighted in various countries around the world.
Arab media reports say that the moon was not spotted in Saudi Arabia, and Eid will be celebrated on Friday in the kingdom. Similar announcements were made in Turkey, stating that Eid will be celebrated on Friday as well.
In Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, it was also announced that Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday. In Australia, Muslims are expected to celebrate the festival on March 20 as well.
On the other hand, Muslims in Singapore are expected to celebrate Eid on Saturday, March 21. In Pakistan, Eid is expected to be celebrated on Saturday, depending on the official moon sighting announcements.
The final announcements in all these countries are made after consultation with local moon sighting committees, marking the end of the holy month of Ramzan.
Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting to be held today to sight Eid moon
Meanwhile, an important meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to sight the moon of Shawwal 1447 AH will be held in the federal capital today, Thursday, March 19, 2026.
The meeting will be chaired by the Chairman of the Committee, Maulana Syed Abdul Khabir Azad.
Experts from the Meteorological Department, SUPARCO, and the Ministry of Science and Technology will also attend the meeting to provide technical assistance.
Similarly, meetings of the provincial and zonal committees will be held at their respective centers in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar.
