KURRAM: The Kurram police on Sunday successfully foiled an attack by militants at the Chanarak police checkpoint in Central Kurram.

According to the District Police Officer (DPO) of Kurram, four terrorists were killed, and six others were injured during a retaliatory action, while two police officers were martyred in the exchange of fire.

The militants attempted to set the Chanarak police post on fire, leading to an ongoing gunfight between the police and the militant group in the area. The DPO stated that additional police forces were quickly dispatched, resulting in a three-hour encounter with the militants.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the professional capabilities of the police, commending their timely and effective actions that thwarted the terrorists’ plans. He expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the two fallen officers and paid tribute to their bravery.

The DPO emphasised that the prompt and effective response from the police was crucial in preventing further threats in the area. The courage and strategy displayed by the officers not only thwarted the attack but also inflicted significant losses on the terrorists. Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with and follow the guidance of security forces to help maintain peace and order in the region.
