ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert, forecasting rain and hailstorms in various parts of the country tonight and tomorrow, with the possibility of flash flooding in vulnerable areas.
According to the PMD, most regions are expected to remain dry with partly cloudy skies over the next 24 hours, while southwestern and northern Balochistan may experience partly cloudy conditions with gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms.
During the evening and night hours, rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper and central Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, with some locations expected to see heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and light snowfall in high-altitude areas.
The PMD has warned that heavy downpours could trigger flash flooding in Balochistan districts including Gwadar, on March 28.
Similarly, local streams and nullahs in upper and central Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to swell between March 28 and 30.
The department also cautioned that strong winds, dust storms, hail, and lightning could damage weak infrastructure, including electricity poles, billboards, and solar panels.
In Islamabad and surrounding areas, partly cloudy skies are expected, with rain, thunderstorms, and possible hail during the evening and night hours.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Batagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Haripur, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, are likely to experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy showers, light snowfall in high-altitude areas, and hailstorms at some locations.
In Punjab and the Islamabad/Rawalpindi region, including Murree, Galiyat, Attock, intermittent rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms is expected, with hailstorms possible at some locations.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, particularly near streams, nullahs, and low-lying areas, and to secure vulnerable infrastructure against strong winds and lightning.
