LAHORE: Pakistani singer Ali Zafar has won his defamation lawsuit against Meesha Shafi after the court ordered her to pay a fine of 50 lakh Pakistani rupees.

Additional Sessions Judge Lahore Ahsaf Hayat issued the ruling after eight years of courtroom battles which involved nine judges and 283 hearings and 20 witnesses who came to the stand.

Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of sexual harassment which led him to file a 100 crore rupee defamation case against her. The court has dismissed the charges levelled against Ali Zafar by Meesha Shafi, ruling in his favour.

Ali Zafar’s lawyer, Umar Tariq Gul, stated that his client experienced a loss of reputation after Meesha Shafi accused him of sexual harassment. Gul added that no evidence existed which proved Ali Zafar committed any severe sexual harassment offense. Gul additionally sought a one billion rupee penalty against Meesha Shafi for his client.

Saqib Jilani Meesha Shafi’s lawyer argued that his client experienced sexual harassment from Ali Zafar who stopped working with her after the incident. Jilani added that no witnesses were present to testify, but added that being a victim of sexual harassment is undeniable, and a victim’s testimony is considered valid.

The court has issued its decision which requires Meesha Shafi to pay 50 lakh rupees as a fine.

Ali Zafar filed a defamation claim against Meesha Shafi in 2018 which marked the start of their legal battle.
