PESHAWAR: In light of the defence pact between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman hosted a dinner in honour of the Saudi ambassador.

The dinner was attended by Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Maliki, Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, Deputy Senate Chairman Syed Al Khan Nasir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.

During the event, Maulana Fazlur Rehman remarked that the Islamic bloc has been a part of their manifesto since its inception. He expressed his belief that the Pak-Saudi agreement will serve as a foundation for the unity of the Islamic world. On behalf of the JUI, he extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the esteemed ambassador regarding the historic agreement between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The Maulana emphasised that this agreement will strengthen the bond between the two countries, describing it as a strong pillar of collective security and a symbol of desired unity within the Muslim Ummah. He noted that both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have the potential to lead the Islamic community.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that the Pak-Saudi defence agreement is evidence that the interests of the Muslim Ummah are aligned. He acknowledged that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as the guardian of the Two Holy Mosques, holds a revered position in the hearts of all Muslims. He further stated that the people of Pakistan view the defence of the Two Holy Mosques as a significant honour and a sacred religious duty.

He described the agreement as representing the dignity and protection of Islamic sanctities. In his view, it should serve as an incentive for closer cooperation among Islamic countries and as a catalyst for restoring the strength and unity of the Islamic nation.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman concluded by praying to Allah Almighty to bless this significant step and expressed hope that it will lead to a revival and flourishing of the state and the entire Islamic community.

The Saudi ambassador, in his remarks, acknowledged Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s sincere concern for the unity of the Ummah and extended congratulations to the Pakistani nation on this agreement. He reiterated that the Muslim Ummah is akin to a single body.

The ceremony also featured the attendance of notable figures, including Maulana Rashid Soomro, Maulana Saeed Yousuf, Engineer Zia-ur-Rehman, Maulana Asjad Mahmood, Senator Ahmed Khan, Senator Dilawar Khan, Noor Alam Khan, Mufti Owais Aziz, Mufti Abrar, and Jalaluddin Advocate.
