PESHAWAR: Member National Assembly Sher Afzal has said that there are substantial doubts within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over the nomination of Sohail Afridi as Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The party’s powerful factions are reported to be discontented with the election of Afridi and are advocating for a different candidate.

Marwat pointed out that Sohail Afridi is recognized for his unwavering loyalty to and following of the directives of the founding leader of PTI, which has led some influential groups within the party to oppose his appointment as Chief Minister.

He further elaborated that the differences between Ali Amin Gandapur and the PTI founder over operational matters have resulted in a division between the two. Moreover, accusations concerning the detention of Bushra Bibi were also targeted at Ali Amin. It is said that key party leaders such as Junaid Akbar, Asad Qaiser, and Shahram Turki have also developed cold relationships with him.

Moreover, Sher Afzal disclosed that Ali Amin Gandapur had quarrels with Alima Khan, the PTI founder’s sister, and this resulted in complaints regarding family interference being taken to the party’s top management. Ali Amin reportedly told the founder that it was very unlikely for him to be set free from prison for one to one and a half years and this might have been a factor for his gradual power loss in the party.
