The Margalla Hills are located in the foothills of the Himalayas, spread over an area of about 17,386 hectares. This place is attractive to foreigners because it is one of the few capitals in the world where dense forests and mountain tracks are located right next to the city. The wildlife here, especially leopards, barking deer, and monkeys, attract nature lovers.
Tourist attractions and activities
Daman-e-Koh and Pir Sohawa are two important points from which the entire Islamabad can be viewed. For foreigners, the restaurants provide a unique experience. Trail 3 and Trail 5 are the most popular among international tourists. Trail 3 is best for fitness enthusiasts due to its slopes, while Trail five is famous for its freshwater springs. Shah Allah Ditta’s caves and ancient Buddhist relics are also a center of attraction for foreigners interested in history.
Security for foreigners and the “Margalla Trail Patrol”
The government of Pakistan has taken special measures for the safety of foreigners, The Federal Police has formed a squad called the “Margalla Trail Patrol” that monitors the trails using motorcycles, horses and foot patrols.
For security reasons, foreigners visiting the trails are required to carry their passport or ID card. Entry of foreigners on some sensitive trails. Tourist Police is on alert for tourists at all times to provide immediate assistance in case of any accident or disappearance.
Security in Margalla has been further enhanced due to the Pak-US-Iran talks Additional checkpoints have been set up on the main route to Pir Sohawa. Entry is difficult without security clearance on trails (3 and 5) starting from F-6 and F-5.
Drones and helicopters are being used for aerial surveillance to prevent any illegal entry into the city through the mountain passes.
It is to mention here that Margalla Hills are the “green zone” of Islamabad that is internationally known for its beauty, however, due to current diplomatic activities, the security here has been made extremely tight and secure.
