ISLAMABAD: Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has announced a scholarship program for Pakistani female students, enabling them to pursue master’s degrees at Oxford University.
Malala used social media to spread her video message in which she explained her reasons for supporting the rights to education of girls after completing her studies at Oxford University.
Malala stated that the Taliban’s educational restrictions for girls contradict Islamic teachings. The scholarships exist to support women who seek to transform Pakistan through their educational pursuits.
Candidates who wish to apply can do so through the Oxford Pakistan Programme website at oxpakprogramme.org. The new students at Oxford University made Malala happy because she will welcome them.
UET Peshawar empowers youth with new scholarships
Earlier, the students of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar belonging to District Lakki Marwat will be awarded fully-funded scholarships by Lucky Cement Limited (LCL). The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed by Prof. Dr. Sadiq Khattak, Vice Chancellor, UET Peshawar and Mr. Noman Hassan, Executive Director, Lucky Cement Limited, in the presence of senior management and faculty members.
Under the agreement, a total of sixteen students from the Fall 2025–26 session holding domicile of District Lakki Marwat, have been selected for the scholarship program. The scholarships will cover students enrolled in Mechanical Engineering (Jalozai Campus), Electrical Engineering (Jalozai Campus), Chemical Engineering (Peshawar Campus) and Mining Engineering (Peshawar Campus).
Prof. Dr. Sadiq Khattak emphasized the importance of strengthening industry–academia collaboration through student internships. He also proposed the establishment of an Industry Chair by Lucky Cement Limited to set up a dedicated Research and Development (R&D) laboratory at UET Peshawar, aimed at addressing real-world industry challenges through faculty- and student-led research.
Mr. Noman Hassan stated that Lucky Cement Limited strongly supports local talent, as graduates are more inclined to contribute to the development of their own regions. “This approach benefits both local communities and the industry,” he said. He added that, as the oldest engineering university in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, UET Peshawar has attained a unique niche by extending higher education opportunities to students from remote and underserved areas. Reaffirming LCL’s commitment, he said the scholarship program offered under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative will continue to support deserving and talented students of UET Peshawar through scholarships.
Director Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Shahzad Khattak, Senior Dean Prof. Dr. Rizwan Gul, Prof. Dr. Amjad Ali, Prof Dr. Waqar Shah, Registrar Dr. Khizar Azam and representatives from both sides were also present on the occasion.
