KOHAT: In a significant breakthrough for the national energy sector, another substantial discovery of oil and gas has been reported in the Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this week.

The discovery was made at the Bragzai X-1 (Salient) exploratory well located within the Nashpa block. According to technical details, the well is expected to produce approximately 3,765 barrels of oil per day alongside 11.2 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas.

Drilling operations at the Bragzai well commenced on December 30, 2024, reaching a total depth of 5,170 meters in the Kangriali formation. Successful testing confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons, marking a major success for the country’s exploration efforts.

This discovery is expected to significantly bolster Pakistan’s hydrocarbon reserves and play a crucial role in narrowing the gap between energy demand and supply. Industry experts believe the additional production will help reduce the country’s reliance on imported fuel and provide a much-needed boost to the national economy.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s southern region is rich in natural resources, especially oil, coal, and Gas reserves. These reserves play a crucial role in the country’s revenue generation.
