The NHMP has stated that the motorway is closed at the present time, and drivers are being told to take the Grand Trunk Road for non-ordinary travel until visibility gets better and the motorway opens again. The authorities have decided to close the road as the fog has reduced visibility to a large extent, and they want to protect the public from any potential hazards.
During the winter season, the motorways in Pakistan often experience severe traffic accidents due to fog, which can result in temporary closures.
The spokesperson urged travellers to use the front and back fog lights during travel to avoid any incident and advised them to prefer travelling in daylight during the foggy season. The purpose of closing the motorway is to prevent accidents and protect the lives and property of motorway users. Motorway police also advised to avoid speeding and keep a longer distance from the vehicle in front than usual.
Motorway police also advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during the early hours. National Highways and Motorway Police advised the public to keep a greater distance between vehicles and always take advice from the helpline 130 before starting the journey to obtain updated traffic and weather information.
