According to the research prolonged sitting is linked to higher risk of stroke, heart disease and vision problems.
If you are living with type 2 diabetes and spend long hours sitting, this habit may increase the risk of medical complications.
A new study has found that a sedentary lifestyle significantly raises the likelihood of serious health problems among people with the condition.
According to research published in the Journal of Sport and Health Science, lack of physical activity is associated with a higher risk of diabetes-related complications.
The study analysed data from 27 studies involving nearly 2.4 million participants to examine the relationship between physical activity levels and complications linked to type 2 diabetes.
The findings showed that physical inactivity increases the risk of stroke by 10.2 per cent, neurological disorders by 9.7 per cent, heart failure by 7.3 per cent, and cardiovascular diseases by up to 7 per cent.
Researchers noted that individuals who do not engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week are considered to have a sedentary lifestyle.
Experts emphasised that regular exercise can play a protective role against diabetes complications.
They advised that incorporating consistent physical activity into daily routines can significantly reduce the risks of stroke, heart disease and other serious health issues in people with type 2 diabetes.
