MOHMAND: Local strongly protested against the poor performance of the Communication and Works (C&W) department and contractors using substandard materials while using snail pace tactics to complete projects.
Expressing their views to Pakhtoon Digital, several citizens said that the provincial government’s laziness and the department’s negligence have severely damaged the basic development issues of the area.
According to the people, many roads, bridges and other development projects are in poor condition, some projects have been incomplete for days, weeks and months, while contractors do not complete the work on time and try to maintain the work with low-quality materials, which is causing difficulties for the common people in their daily lives.
The roads are broken and transportation becomes difficult during the rainy season. In many places, work is limited to announcements only, in reality there is no substantial construction process.
There is no adequate accountability on the contractors and the concerned officers, which has increased corruption and lack of quality.
The people say that the cost of most projects keeps increasing but the work is not completed, and that is why they are completely disappointed with the provincial government. Despite the development funds released at the district level, the common people are very angry at not seeing practical progress despite promises every year.
Local citizens told Pakhtun Digital representatives that they hear big announcements every year in the name of development projects, but in practice, roads, bridges and basic amenities are incomplete. The C&W department should prioritize the public interest and take strict action against the contractors.”
In addition, many youth and businessmen also expressed their views on social media, saying that the lack of transparency and quality at the district level has reduced the public’s trust in the government system. In such a situation, people expect that an inquiry or monitoring system should be established that can effectively review the performance of contractors and government officials.
