Deputy Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Liaqat Baloch said that there were large-scale loopholes in he electoral process of the country, and there was a dire need for reforms to make the system transparent.
Talking to media persons, he said that the 2024 elections have damaged the trust of the people, and the disputed results have made the political process non-transparent and illegitimate. Liaqat Baloch has termed the Punjab government’s repeated move to postpone local elections as “anti-people”. He says that until elections are held at the local level, it will not be possible to solve public problems. Local bodies are the closest institutions to the government at the public level, and it is very important for them to be active so that the real face of the government is revealed to the people and their problems can be solved.
The Punjab government’s continuous avoidance of local body elections could be a deep political strategy, the aim of which is to prevent the government’s performance from becoming a question mark at the public level. Liaqat Baloch stressed the need that the general meeting of Jamaat-e-Islami is not just a protest or demonstration but a symbol of determination, which has created new hope in the hearts of the people. Jamaat-e-Islami aims to end the current “anti-people system” and bring a system in which the rights and interests of the people are given priority.
Through this meeting, Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed its resolve to create political awareness across the country and to mobilize the people for reforming the system. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that resolving differences within the realm of civilization. According to him, wars or fights between political parties in Pakistan can only prove harmful.
He urged that differences should be resolved positively so that politics in the country can be given a positive direction and a political atmosphere is established where the rights of all are respected. Reforming the political system in Pakistan is a very complex and long process. Jamaat-e-Islami’s emphasis on the need to bring about changes in the electoral system can be an important step.
However, this requires the approval of governments and the cooperation of political forces across the country. Similarly, strong political will and public support will be needed to make local government elections effective. Overall, the position of Liaqat Baloch and Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman is clear that the process of reforming the political and electoral system in Pakistan should be initiated so that the people can truly enjoy their rights and an effective democracy can be established.
