ISLAMABAD: The Law enforcement agencies on Thursday arrested the facilitator and handler of the Islamabad suicide attack within 40 hours of the tragic incident, which had claimed 12 lives and injured several others.

The tragic incident had taken place outside the Islamabad Judicial Complex on Tuesday.

Pakistan has seen an uptick in terror events after the end of the ceasefire between the Pakistani authorities and Tehreek-i-Taliban (TTP) in 2023. Over 800 people across the country have lost their lives in terrorist attacks since then.

According to sources, the facilitator was arrested in Rawalpindi, while the mastermind was apprehended in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is reportedly hailing from Afghanistan. Both individuals are now being held at an unknown location for further interrogation.

Initial investigations revealed that the facilitator had arrived in Rawalpindi a month prior and had been residing in Dhok Paracha. Before the suicide attack, he conducted reconnaissance of the judicial complex in coordination with the suicide bomber.

Sources also indicated that the facilitator had planned to survey key locations in Rawalpindi Cantonment in Saddar.

Reports suggest that the suicide bomber was an Afghan national. He arrived in Islamabad on Friday and travelled to the G-11 judicial complex on a motorbike, wearing a shawl at the time of the attack. Police stated that the blast involved approximately eight kilograms of explosives and ball bearings.

Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police noted that one motorcycle and one car are currently under investigation.
