PESHAWAR: Hayatabad Medical Complex, a major teaching institution in Peshawar, MRI Machin has been out of function while treatment on the Sehat Card has also been suspended, causing severe hardship to patients.

According to sources, the closure of the MRI facility is not only affecting the diagnosis process, but patients suffering from complex diseases are forced to turn to private laboratories where the costs are many times higher. Similarly, due to the suspension of the Sehat Card facility, major orthopedic and surgical operations have also been stopped in the hospital, as a result of which patients has been forced to undergo expensive treatment in private hospitals.

It is worth mentioning that the Hayatabad Medical Complex is the central medical facility for thousands of patients coming not only from Peshawar but also from other nearby districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa such as Nowshera, Charsadda and Khyber.

Compared to the other two major teaching hospitals, there is a greater rush of patients here due to quality treatment and modern facilities. Sources said that a major reason for the suspension of the Sehat Card program is being cited as non-payment of dues by the State Life Insurance Corporation.

The hospital administration says that due to non-release of funds and multiple compliance with claims procedures has led to a financial crisis, which is affecting treatment facilities.
