PESHAWAR: The Peace jirga arranged by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will be held today in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Hall. The event will be organized by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Speaker of the Provincial Assembly, Babar Salim Swati.
A PTI parliamentary delegation, linking with a peace jirga met with the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi. The delegation was led by Speaker Babar Salim Swati and it was composed of MNA Junaid Akbar, Asad Qaiser, Mehboob Shah, Sabghatullah, Atif Khan, Dr. Amjad, Saleem Ur Rehman, and others Members of the National Assembly.
The deputation to the Governor extended an official invitation for him to attend the provincial assembly peace jirga. They informed the Governor, as the constitutional head of the province, his joining and leadership in the jirga would greatly honor him. They resorted to the rallying cry of oneness as the key to peace, progress and welfare of the province.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi guaranteed the delegation that he will be there at the peace jirga with full zeal and went on to say that he would consider it a great honor to sit together with the provincial government and all political parties. He acknowledged and accepted his duty to be an instrument of peace and progress in the province once more.
Moreover, the Governor said, “It is with great pleasure that I see the eloquent move personified in the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly and the provincial government to take this affirmative step towards peace. As a post-holder under the Federation, I am resolute to work with all the political parties to ensure the province gets its due. The desolate state of the province calls for no less than total unison from all of us and to walk in step from now on.”
Delegates from the most influential political parties have spoken out that they will join the Jirga. Attendees have been given special passes, and the Department of Home will strictly prohibit the entry of those who are not related to the event. A well-planned security arrangement has been made, and the seats of the provincial assembly hall have been decorated for 400 participants.
The Peace Jirga has been called to talk about the province’s law and order situation and the security operations.
The session will be held at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, where the Speaker Babar Saleem Swati will preside over the session and the Chief Minister Sohaib Afridi will be available. Officials have stated that all necessary arrangements have been put in place.

More than 20 political parties have been invited, among which are the ANP, PPP, PML-N, JUI, Jamaat-e-Islami, QWP, and PML-Q. Bar councils, lawyers, and civil society representatives are also coming to the event after they have been confirmed.
One committee will be appointed to write the Jirga’s statement that will be shared by the Chief Minister and the Speaker. The declaration will be conveyed to the federal government and all security agencies, and then it will be formally presented at the Apex Committee meeting.
