The upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Shangla, Swat, Mansehra, and Abbottabad, received a fresh spell of snowfall on Friday, which has turned the cold wave in the region.
A new spell of snowfall started in the mountainous areas of northern areas of Pakistan, covering the mountains with snow blanket.
According to residents of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, weather conditions remained chilly over the past few days, while fresh snowfall and rain brought much-needed relief from the dry spell.
Snowfall reported in the mountains of Shangla, Swat, Chitral, Dir Upper, Mansehra and Abbottabad. The Meteorological Department had predicted snowfall and rain in various parts of the country starting from today friday and is likely to continue till January 26.
In view of the weather situation, the Provincial Emergency Operation Centre has issued an alert to all concerned district administrations and relevant institutions for taking precautionary measures.
Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that light rain is expected at intervals in Chitral Upper and Lower, Dir Upper and Lower, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan Upper and Lower, Kolai Palace, Malakand, Buner, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Abbottabad, Galiat, and Haripur from January 16 to 19.
While during January 20 to 23, thundershowers and snowfall on the mountains are also predicted in the upper districts of the province, Chitral (Upper and Lower), Dir (Upper and Lower), Swat, Shangla, Kohistan Upper and Lower, Kolaipalas, Malakand, Buner, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Abbottabad, Galiyat.
In addition, intermittent thundershowers are also expected in the plain areas of the province, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Khyber, Orakzai, Karak, Bannu, North and South Waziristan, Lakki Marwat, Tank, and DI Khan, during January 20 to 23.
