PESHAWAR: The Department of Higher Education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced that all universities, degree-awarding institutions, and colleges in the province would remain closed until March 29 for the purpose of spring break holidays.
According to an official announcement, the universities and colleges in the province would remain closed from March 24 to 26, and the weekend holidays already in effect from Friday to Sunday would also remain closed, thus extending the holidays for three days.
The decision was made by the Secretary of Higher Education in the province and would apply to all universities and colleges in the province. According to the announcement, vice-chancellors and heads of institutions would ensure compliance with this announcement.
Teaching and other activities would commence online from March 30 onward. The Department of Higher Education also announced that the weekly Friday-Saturday holidays would also remain in effect for the next two months or until further orders.
KP govt announces Eid-ul-Fitr holidays
Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced that March 20 and March 21, 2026 will be public holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr while Sunday and March 23 will be extra holidays for government employees.
These holidays will be logged in government offices that work for 5 and 6 days. Government employees will get 4 holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, March 22 will be a public holiday due to Sunday, while March 23 will also be an official holiday for Pakistan Day.
The date of Eid-ul-Fitr will be determined by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will announce it after the sighting of the Shawwal moon on March 19, 2026.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, Pakistan Railways has announced to run 4 special trains to make it easier for passengers to reach their homes.
