PESHAWAR: Traders in the provincial capital, Peshawar, on Wednesday clarified that they would not close their shops on the occasion of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) rally scheduled on February 8 in the province.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leadership has called a protest rally across the country on February 8 to protest the alleged rigging and mandate-stealing from the PTI by the ruling government.

The PTI and Tahafuz Aaeen Pakistan leaders have also urged the business community to support their rally and participate with them by closing their businesses on February 8; however, traders in Peshawar city and its outskirts have firmly decided against closing their shops for the PTI protest.

While speaking to Azaad Digital, traders expressed their concerns, stating that while their businesses are on the brink of disaster, PTI continues to hold protests and strikes, pushing them further into economic turmoil. “We condemn the PTI’s call for a protest and do not support their decision to observe a strike. They have done nothing for the trading community, and our businesses suffer more each day due to their poor governance and negligence,” they stated.

They said if the government used administrative powers against them, they might close their shops, but would devise a strict strategy against the government in the coming days to protest their failed policies.

The traders, however, firmly decided to keep their shops remain open on February 8 during the PTI rally.
