PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to formally include Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the curriculum of public schools from grade six to grade twelve.

According to official documents, the province currently faces a shortage of 5,525 IT laboratories required for AI teaching. Higher secondary schools need 225 labs, while middle schools require 3,515 labs, which are not yet available.

The Education Department requires complete syllabus transformations because the current computer science curriculum fails to include AI content. The new educational plan will dedicate 35 to 50 percent of the various grade syllabuses to teaching AI topics.

The department plans to hire 7555 IT instructors who will teach students essential technology competencies needed for AI instruction.

The Education Department confirmed that Artificial Intelligence will become an official school subject starting from March 2026.

KP govt decides to introduce smart attendance App

Similarly, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department has decided to introduce a smart attendance app across the province to take action against ghost and absent employees, under which employees will now have to upload their photos and take attendance online.

According to health department sources, the smart attendance app is being implemented across the province with the aim of developing the attendance system on modern lines and preventing misuse of government resources. Under the new system, employees will upload photos with their location from offices, hospitals and health centres, which will make it possible to verify their presence.

Sources said that earlier attendance was taken through biometric machines and registers in the health department, but despite this, complaints of ghost employees and absence from duty have been coming to light in different districts.

According to health department sources, data of health department employees across the province is being compiled, after which the smart attendance system will be implemented formally.

According to sources, under this system, it will be possible to identify employees who show attendance despite being on leave, those who are absent for long periods and those who are continuously neglecting their duties, which will help in improving departmental discipline and providing better health facilities to the public.
