PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Health Minister, Khaliq ur Rehman, and Secretary Health, Shahid Ullah Khan, have issued important directives to all District Health Officers and Medical Superintendents regarding the public display of the newly notified, standardised laboratory test charges across all health facilities in the province.
A meeting was held in this regard to ensure transparency, uniformity, and ease for patients, the department has instructed that the updated laboratory pricing schedule be printed and prominently displayed at key locations throughout every hospital.
These locations include the Outpatient Department Block, the Emergency Block, and the front area of all hospital laboratories. Strict compliance with this directive is expected from every relevant facility so that citizens are fully informed of the official diagnostic charges and no unauthorised pricing is practised under any circumstances.
In addition to this directive, the Health Minister has implemented a major reform concerning diagnostic services across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In line with the reform vision of the Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi and through the dedicated efforts of the Minister for Health and the Secretary Health, the province has completed a long-awaited revision of lab test prices.
This marks the first comprehensive update of diagnostic pricing since 1996. Through this initiative, a total of sixty-three laboratory tests were reviewed in detail.
The revised structure has resulted in a reduction in the cost of thirty-six tests, making healthcare more affordable for citizens. Furthermore, according to comparative analysis, thirty-three tests are now priced lower than those offered in neighbouring provinces, ensuring that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa receive more accessible and equitable health services.
The Health Department emphasises that these reforms have been introduced to provide relief to the public, strengthen accountability at health facilities, and bring diagnostic services in line with uniform provincial standards.
The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains committed to improving service delivery, enhancing transparency, and ensuring that every citizen benefits from affordable and standardised healthcare.
