PESHAWAR: Dengue patients in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa are mounting at a rapid pace with 71 new confirmed cases in the past 24 hours. Active cases of dengue in the province reached 283.
According to details, 29 dengue patients are receiving treatment at hospitals around the province. A total of 2,792 people have contracted dengue in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since the start of this calendar year, in which 2,509 have fully recovered. No deaths from dengue have occurred thus far in the province.
Health officials have acknowledged criticism about the failure of public health to respond effectively to the current outbreak of dengue across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Just as the province would have been treating the aquatic or larval forms of dengue with preventive larvicide, public health was otherwise engaged. The province is now, reportedly, only conducting spray operations, which is perceived as cosmetic by many.

Health authorities have asked that public warning signs are observed, such as removing stagnant water from streets and premises, sleeping under mosquito nets, and maintaining a degree of cleanliness at home or work, all of which would be preventive towards dengue.
Last month, the dengue epidemic in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was alarming, with over 97,000 cases reported in the province during January to August 2025, official statistics of the Health Department indicate.
With 9,726 dengue cases, Nowshera is now the worst-affected area. Peshawar comes next at 9,455, Swat at 8,951, and Shangla at 7,895 infections.
With a staggering 22,863 new cases, the highest in any one month this year, August was the worst.
