Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA)issued a preliminary report on the loss of life and property in various districts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province due to rains and snowfall since January 22 and so far, nine people have died and 1 child has been injured in accidents such as avalanches, landslides and roof collapses of houses due to rains and snowfall in the province.

The dead include seven children, one man and one woman, while the injured include one child,PDMA said. According to the report so far, a total of 5 houses have been partially damaged due to rains and snowfall.

These accidents occurred in various districts of the province include Chitral (Upper and Lower), Malakand, Shangla and Khyber. The roads closed in most districts of the province due to rains and heavy snowfall have been opened for general traffic.

Machinery is also busy opening the remaining closed roads in some upper areas due to heavy snowfall. PDMA, Rescue 1122, district administration and related departments are in touch with each other and relief activities are continuing.

PDMA has directed all districts to provide relief goods to the victims as soon as possible. PDMA has already provided relief goods to all district administrations as per the requirement.

The relief goods include winter protection tents, blankets, beds, mattresses, kitchen sets and other essential life items. PDMA has directed the administration of the affected Chitral Lower district to provide assistance to the families of the affected people as soon as possible.

PDMA has directed the district administration to intensify relief activities and provide immediate assistance to the affected people.

A new series of rains and snowfall will continue intermittently in the upper districts of the province from last night to Tuesday. The public is appealed to avoid unnecessary travel and do not visit sensitive tourist places and follow the alerts/advisories issued by government agencies.
