PESHWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on health on Wednesday ordered recovery from the Mansehra King Abdullah Teaching Hospital Medical Superintendent over extra payment.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on health held a meeting in Peshawar, chaired by MPA Idrees Khatak.

During the meeting, it was noted that the audit was reprimanded for grouping audit discrepancies from various hospitals in the province. The chairman directed that each audit discrepancy should be addressed separately, rather than consolidating them.

Ahmed Karim Kundi highlighted that the recoveries from the years 2016 and 2017 will not hold the same value after 10 years. He also suggested that a new procedure should be developed regarding past payments. The Public Accounts Committee was tasked with formulating a new procedure for financial and audit recoveries.

Assembly members raised objections to audit discrepancies from Bannu, Mansehra, Haripur, and several other locations. Kundi urged that the work discrepancies reported by the Auditor General should be prioritised, emphasising the need to avoid wasting the committee’s time.

The committee ordered the recovery of Rs 32 lakh from the Medical Superintendent of King Abdullah Hospital in Mansehra due to additional payments made. However, it was noted that the employee involved in the recovery process is either deceased or has retired, as pointed out by Idrees Khatak.

Khatak expressed his frustration at the lack of satisfactory responses from the Health Department, remarking that it seemed like the entire staff had come directly from bed that day. Throughout the meeting, more than 10 audit reports were returned.

The meeting of the Public Accounts Committee, chaired by Idrees Khatak, has now concluded.
