PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Naanbai Association on Thursday announced that all tandoors across the province would shut down from October 16 in protest against the rising prices of flour in the region.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Naanbai Association issued a statement on Thursday announcing that its core committee has decided to observe a province-wide strike in protest against rising prices of flour.

According to the statement, the strike will begin on October 16, during which all the tandoors across the province will remain closed. The KP Naanbai Association President, Salar Rahim Safi, said in the statement that the government had failed in the provision of subsidised flour and in controlling its prices.

Naanbai Association noted that when the price of an 80kg flour bag was at Rs 6500, the government had fixed the price of a 150-gram Roti (bread) at Rs 20, but now the price of that flour bag soared to Rs 12500, and selling even a 100-gram roti at Rs 20 results in financial losses for tandoor owners.

The statement emphasised that unless the government takes practical measures either to stabilise flour prices or revise the official rate of roti, the strike will continue. During this period, all Rs2500 tandoors across the province will remain closed.

The association urged the government to take immediate steps to control flour prices, warning that the strike could continue indefinitely if their demands are not met.
