PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has officially announced winter vacations for government and private universities and colleges across the province. A formal notification has also been issued by the department in this regard.

As per the announcement, universities and colleges located in the plain areas of the province will remain closed from December 23, 2025 to December 31, 2025, while academic activities will resume from January 1, 2026. The plain areas include Peshawar, Swabi, Charsadda, DI Khan and other districts.

On the other hand, long winter vacations have been announced for universities and colleges located in the upper and cold regions. According to the notification, educational institutions in these areas will remain closed from December 23, 2025 to February 28, 2026. The upper areas include Kohistan, Chitral, Swat, Buner, and other cold regions.

The Higher Education Department said that this decision has been taken in view of the severe cold, possible snowfall and the safety of students and teachers. All public and private educational institutions have been instructed to ensure strict implementation of the notification.

It should be noted that decisions related to examinations, online classes or other educational activities during the holidays can be made at the institutional level, however, general educational activities will remain suspended.
