PESHAWAR: Provincial Minister for Health, Khaliq ur Rehman, chaired an important meeting today regarding the issuance of appointment letters to the newly inducted 51 Medical Officers (MOs).

Director General of Health Services, Dr Shahid Younus, along with all relevant officers from the Health Department, attended the meeting.

The Minister was informed that the recruitment process for doctors began in July 2025, during which 115 vacancies were advertised on a merit basis through EATA. A total of 111 doctors have already been appointed through this process, while the selection of the remaining 51 consultants has also been finalised. Among these, 30 are from highly sought-after specialities, while 21 are from less attractive specialities.

Today, the Minister handed over 24 appointment letters to the selected doctors, and the remaining candidates received offer letters.

Additionally, it was reported that the second phase of recruitment is currently underway to address the urgent need for doctors and consultants in the province. In this phase, 207 positions will be filled through EATA using a transparent, merit-based system. Interviews for 32 dental surgeons have been completed, and tests for 165 Medical Officers have been conducted, with their interviews scheduled to take place soon.

While distributing the appointment letters, the Minister was briefed on the fairness and transparency of the entire induction process. He urged the newly appointed doctors to work with dedication, honesty, and professionalism to strengthen the Health Department. He emphasised that the provincial government and the Health Department are committed to tackling challenges in the healthcare system and implementing meaningful reforms.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the recruitment process and extended his best wishes to the new inductees. He stated that there is no tolerance for unfairness or errors in the induction process, as the province needs competent, honest, and qualified individuals to enhance basic health services. He added that improving the health system requires a collective effort, with strong coordination and management systems essential for revamping and strengthening service delivery.

In conclusion, the Minister distributed appointment letters to the newly selected Medical Officers and congratulated them on joining the provincial health system.
