PESHAWAR (Muhammad Ijaz Afridi): In view of the conflict in the Gulf countries and its impact on Pakistan, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved the abolition of the base fee charged at all C-class bus bases for one month to provide fare relief to the public, which is aimed at directly benefiting passengers and reducing transport fares.

A letter has been issued by the Local Government Department to the DG Metropolitan Peshawar and all TMEs. The letter states that according to this decision taken in the 50th meeting of the provincial cabinet, the government will bear 100 per cent of the burden of the fees of these bases itself, and in this regard, the provincial government will also be responsible for compensating for the monthly financial loss of about Rs. 140 million incurred by the Tehsil Municipal Administrations.

In a letter issued by the Local Council Board, all Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners have been specifically directed to ensure that the benefit of waiver of accommodation fee is passed on to the common citizens in the form of a reduction in rents.

For the immediate implementation of this decision, the concerned authorities of all districts, including Peshawar, have been directed to maintain accurate revenue records and submit comprehensive reports on a monthly basis so that timely payment of financial compensation can be ensured.
