PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sports department on Friday announced cash prizes for national games medalists. The cash prizes of Rs 600,000 for gold medalists, Rs 400,000 for silver medalists, and Rs 200,000 for bronze medalists.
A grand ceremony was held at the Peshawar Sports Complex to honour the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa players who excelled in the 35th National Games in Karachi. The event featured Advisor on Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, as the special guest. During the ceremony, he announced cash prizes of Rs 600,000 for gold medalists, Rs 400,000 for silver medalists, and Rs 200,000 for bronze medalists.
In his address, Tarand congratulated the athletes, highlighting their achievements despite limited resources and emphasising that they deserve recognition for bringing glory to the province. He expressed confidence in the talent of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s players and their potential to compete successfully against athletes from other provinces.
Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, Tarand assured that sports facilities would be provided in all districts of the province. He announced that ice hockey competitions would take place in January in Chitral, along with the Under-21 Games in the same month. Additionally, special games for inter-school and minority communities, as well as junior games, are scheduled for 2026 to identify new talent. Traditional and regional sports competitions will also be organised to promote the culture and regional identity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Furthermore, Tarand mentioned that scholarships would be awarded to medalists of the Quaid-e-Azam Games. He also shared updates on the Peshawar Sports Complex, stating that the swimming pool is being upgraded for both cold and hot seasons, and that work on the athletics track is progressing well and will be completed soon.
