PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Wednesday released Rs 1.41 billion to the Local Government Department for the cleanliness campaign across the province.
Taking a concrete step towards providing a clean and healthy environment to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Minister for Local Government Meena Khan Afridi has ensured the release of necessary funds. In this regard, the Finance Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has released a substantial sum of 1414.628 million rupees as a supplementary budget grant for the cleanliness campaign, in accordance with the decision of the provincial cabinet.
In a statement issued from his office, Minister for Local Government Meena Khan Afridi stated that the primary objective of these funds, released after the historic decision in the 36th meeting of the provincial cabinet on August 12, 2025, is to run a comprehensive cleanliness campaign from October to December 2025 in the Village Councils of all 28 settled districts of the province.
He said we have brought a cleanliness drive to the Village Council level. He added that a cleanliness campaign is ongoing in the Village Councils of all 28 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He appealed that the public must also play their role in the cleanliness efforts at the Village Council level.
According to the notification issued by the Finance Department, the salaries of janitors deployed in the Village Councils and the fuel and repair expenses for loader rickshaws used for cleanliness will be covered by the released funds. A sum of 127.113 million rupees, the highest allocation, has been earmarked for the provincial capital, Peshawar. The entire amount will be transferred to the designated bank accounts of the respective Village Councils.
The notification further directed that the Finance Department will only release subsequent instalments of funds upon the submission of actual progress reports every three months, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.
