PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has developed a comprehensive strategy to promote eco-friendly industries and address the environmental pollution caused by the marble industry under the Clean Industrial Development program.
According to a statement issued by the KP government on Thursday, effective measures are being implemented to eliminate environmental pollution in the Malaguri and Warsak Road Marble Cluster. A regular action plan is being prepared for the marble factories located on Warsak Road and in Malaguri, focusing on controlling air and water pollution.
Environmental problems have been escalating due to the presence of illegal marble factories along Warsak Road and in Malaguri. The increase in industrial structures without proper planning has not only heightened air pollution but also adversely affected groundwater. In response, the government has decided to take legal action against these illegal operations.
There are over 235 marble units on Warsak Road and more than 250 in Malaguri, with the Malaguri Marble Cluster covering an area of over 170 acres. The government has begun the process of creating an action plan to regulate the existing Malaguri cluster under standardised operating procedures (SOPs).
Additionally, marble factories situated on Warsak Road will be relocated to a designated industrial park on Kohat Road, Peshawar, where the necessary infrastructure and facilities will meet environmental standards. The implementation of both projects will be ensured within specified timelines.
