PESHAWAR: A high-level meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi focused on the 3 MPOs, 16 MPOs, and Section 144.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi emphasized that every law has its positive and negative aspects, and they must not be used for political pressure or retaliation. He asserted that freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest are guaranteed to every citizen.

CM announced that a new strategy will be developed to balance the right to protest with public convenience, ensuring that the public does not experience any inconvenience during protests. He stated that the laws will be further refined in alignment with the vision of the founding chairman, Imran Khan.

A four-member committee, led by Law Minister Aftab Alam, will submit recommendations for reforms to the proposed laws. Chief Minister Afridi mentioned that provisions that could lead to political victimization would be removed and reiterated that the primary aim of these laws is public interest and welfare.

He highlighted that the government’s top priority is the protection of citizens’ lives and property, as well as the provision of necessary facilities.

The meeting was attended by Law Minister Aftab Alam, the Chief Secretary, the Secretary of Home, and the Advocate General.

They discussed the issue of restrictions on the free movement of wheat by the Punjab government. Addressing on the occasion Chief MInister said  that Under Article 151, inter-provincial trade is a constitutional right of all provinces.
