PESHAWAR: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Monday imposed a ban on mining work during the rains, citing potential risk of mine collapses due to poor mining conditions and climate effects.

The KP government issued a notification in this regard, announcing the closure of coal and other mines across the province to avert the potential risk of mine collapses due to heavy rains.
According to the notification issued by the Department of Minerals, entry into underground and surface mining has been prohibited. There is a possibility of severe landslides in the mines.

There is a risk of floodwater entering the mines due to rain. The chances of accidents with electrical equipment may increase. There may also be incidents of workers falling due to slipping.
The Department of Minerals has directed the strict implementation of safety SOPs, saying that the workers should ensure the safety of their own lives and those of their colleagues. In case of any emergency, inform the relevant authorities immediately. Failure to follow precautionary measures may result in the loss of precious lives.
