PESHAWAR (Rani Andaleeb): The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a decisive directive to reform the administrative structure of public sector universities, mandating that all administrative posts be filled exclusively by regular administrative officers.
According to a formal notification from the Higher Education Department (HED), the government has ordered the immediate withdrawal of additional administrative charges currently held by teaching faculty and non-administrative staff.
The order explicitly instructs university senates and syndicates to remove individuals serving on an acting, additional, or dual-charge basis. To ensure the professional management of these institutions, the HED directed that if suitable administrative officers are unavailable, universities must immediately initiate a fresh recruitment process to fill the vacancies.
This move aims to enforce strict compliance with Section 17-A of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Act 2012. The department warned that any institution failing to implement this provision would face legal consequences. All government universities have been given a 15-day deadline to submit a comprehensive implementation report to the provincial government.
The Higher Education Department hinted at stern action against any violations of this law, emphasising that the era of academic staff holding multiple administrative portfolios at the expense of their primary duties is over. This initiative is seen as a major step toward ensuring transparency and professional governance within the province’s higher education sector.
